Attractions - Manyara National Park

overview of Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park offers the most spectacular view of the tree-climbing Lions. Nestling at the base of the Great Rift Valley, the park is noted for its numerous Buffalo. Elephant, Sacred 1 bis, Corm ants and Geese. The park is 319sq km. The wall of the Great Rift Valley forms the back drop from where the forest opens up into woodlands, grasslands, swamps and beyond the soda lake itself. It is 130 km from Arusha- about 2 hours drive so can be visited on a day excursion.

Village Walk

Offer visitors a chance to catch a rare glimpse of some of the fascinating different cultures of East Africa. The Village of Mto wa Mbu on the shores of Lake Manyara is a living example of one of the richest linguistic mixes in Africa. Home to over 90 tribes, Mto wa Mbu is quite possibly the only place where you can hear Bantu, Nilotic, Khoisan and Cushitic accents spoken in the same marketplace together with the diverse lifestyles and heritage that comes with these people.

What to expect

A real cultural experience, feeling the heartbeat of an authentic African village with every step you take. You will encounter many locals and sense the existence of their being. A leisurely stroll with a village guide will take you through local homes, farmlands, resident bars, a kindergarten and a church. After the walk we gather at a private, local banana-leaf bar, for a one in a million African fruit tasting. A wide variety of local fruits will be presented to you to taste and appreciate. We then get transferred back to Lake Manyara Serena Lodge, if desired.
