Serengeti Balloon Safari

At long last visitors will have the opportunity to have a bird’s eye view of the Serengeti Western Corridor and marvelthe wildlife and scenery from a hot air balloon.Serengeti Balloon Safaris have been in existence in central Serengeti since 1995.Following success in central Serengeti and the demand for starting the same operation in the western part of the Serengeti National Park, Serengeti Balloon Safaris launched their first balloon trip in the Serengeti Western Corridor on 16th December 2007.

The Serengeti Balloon Safaris will now have 3 baskets carrying a total of 44 passengers; two based in central Serengeti each with 16 seats (32 pax) and the third one a 12-seater which will be in western Serengeti. Operating in the same schedule as in central Serengeti, the Serengeti Balloon Safaris will collect you from your western Serengeti lodge / camp (Grumeti River Camp, Kirawira Camp, Mbalageti Camp) early at 05h30 for the launch site. Here you will meet your pilot, receive a briefing and watch the inflation of your balloon. At dawn the balloon takes off, rising as the sun rises and float in whichever direction the winds of the morning take you.Your pilot can precisely control the altitude of your balloon: sometimes flying at treetop height, sometimes lower, offering a unique perspective and great photographic opportunities of the wildlife below. At other times he will probably ascend to 1000 feet or more to see the enormity and wonderful panorama of the Serengeti. The flight is for about one hour depending on conditions.

Upon landing you celebrate with an excellent sparkling wine before sitting down to a full English breakfast prepared and served in the bush in “Out of Africa” style with china, linen table cloths, King’s silver etc. After breakfast you receive your Serengeti Balloon certificate and we drive you back to our rendezvous point with game viewing en route, arriving around 09h30 ready to continue with your day’s activities. Early wake up around 05:00hrs, and after tea/coffee & cookies, depart for launch site, about an hour’s drive from your lodge. On the way you may see some nocturnal animals. The balloon flight takes about an hour over the endless Serengeti plains, at times ascending to an altitude of 1,000 feet or more to see the enormity and wonderful panorama of the Serengeti. Sparkling wine toast on landing, followed by a full English breakfast cooked on the balloon burner served in the middle of the bush.
